My dad, grandpa and our Chicago Blackhawks.

On June 1st, 1992 I remember going into my dads bedroom where he was layin down watching tv. I sat on the edge of the bed, wondering what he was watching.  Turns out it was game 4 of the 1992 Stanley Cup Finals, which was the Chicago Blackhawks vs Pittsburgh Penguins. I remember asking question after question and he was happy to answer, even though the Hawks were about to get swept in the Finals.  What I didn’t know at the time was just how much my dad enjoyed the Hawks.

It wasn’t until a few years later in 1994 when I was in 8th grade that I actually learned how much the Hawks meant. My dad surprised me with tickets to my first Hawks game.  He said he wanted me to experience the sights and smells of the old Chicago Stadium. Now if you have ever been to Chicago Stadium, you know that it was old, small, smelly, and loud.

Looking back now, the best part wasn’t going to the game, but hearing the stories that my dad had of being a kid and running up the stairs to get a good seat for my grandpa and cousin Kenny.  My dad would talk about my grandpa taking him to Mama Schiavone bar and how some of the players would go in after the games and would chat with my dad and grandpa while that drank.  The 60’s obviously were a different time, since a young kid in a bar wouldn’t fly today.  Now after hearing these stories about Mama Schiavone’s, I figured it was just a simple high five and that was it. Then, in 2013 at the Blackhawks convention, I had the opportunity to talk to Bobby Hull as he signed my tattoo.  Of course my dad took advantage of the situation and asked Bobby if he remembered that bar.  And wouldn’t you know it, Bobby remembered. Not only did he remember, but he remembered chatting with my dad and grandpa. Of course you could chalk it up to him just agreeing for the sake of agreement.  But he started talking about the same stuff my dad told me about.  So just as my dad had the memory of meeting Hull with my grandpa, I have the memory of meeting Hull with my dad.

As I’ve stated before in a prior post, there are certain things you do with your parents, grandparents, or any family member for that matter that will lead to traditions, and those that will be etched in your mind. So tonight, almost 4 months to the day that my grandpa passed, we sit here getting ready for game 1 of the 2017/2018 NHL season. My grandma, aunts, dad and mom are all here…and even though I look to my right and see an empty red chair, I know my grandpa is sitting there.

Chicago Blackhawks 2017

Tonight is the first preseason game for the Blackhawks. Normally, I’d be excited about this and call my dad and grandpa to see if they’re going to watch it, but not tonight. My dad and I decided not to go to the home opener, but rather watch it at his house, with my uncles, with my grandpa’s jersey on the chair he sat in. For the first time my dad will have to watch a game knowing he can’t call his dad to celebrate a win or pick him up to watch the game. Some of you may think that this is being over dramatic, but the Blackhawks were a bonding experience that was passed on through generations. Some may have memories of baking cookies with their grandma, or perhaps fishing with their grandpa, mine was celebrating a goal. As the Blackhawks take the puck past the blue line and slip the puck past the goalie, this celebration will be different, this celebration will be with tears. 318309_10150344824679326_13401254_n

Chicago Cubs

The last time I wrote on here was back in Sept. Where the hell did the time go?  Actually i haven’t posted anything on here for one simple reason, my job.  Being that I now work for the government, I have to be smart with what i write.  For those that have followed my post for awhile, you know that I tend to write about things that a few people may find politically incorrect. Unfortunately we live in a world where people get butt-hurt over the littlest of things. Later today i will be doing a video blog about tattoos, specifically mine. I will also speak about the Bradley Lopez name and why I used it instead of my real name. I’ve included some shirts that i made for each round of the playoffs and a few pics of my family.

So in the tradition of Things On My Mind, here is number 1….a little late of course.

1.  For life long Cubs fan Nov. 2nd will go down as the day the world stood still. People young and old cried as soon as Rizzo caught the ball from Bryant. The thing about the Cubs is that the term Lovable Losers was common place year after year. You knew the Cubs weren’t going to win it all but that didn’t stop millions of fans from visiting Wrigley for a game or watching in front of the television with their dad or grandfather.

2015 was different though. Although they were swept by the Mets in the NLCS, as Cubs fan, you knew we had a special team.  What if the saying “Next Year” really meant next year?  It’s weird as a Cubs fan to read the preseason World Series predictions and see the Cubs in the top spot. A couple of new additions to the team and now World Series contenders.  Besides a few hiccups throughout the 2016 season , the Cubs were the championship caliber team that we expected them to be.

Back in 2003 during the 8th inning of game 6 of the Cubs NLDS game vs the Marlins, I stood in line waiting for just 5 outs knowing I’d be the first in line to buy a NLDS championship shirt.  What happened instead was one of the worst innings any Cubs fan has had to live through. I, along with hundreds of thousands of Cubs fans stood there screaming at the top of our lungs at a guy with headphones instead of directing that anger towards a Cubs team that gave it all away.

Fast forward to game 7, 8th inning of the 2016 World Series. Cubs up by three..then by two…then tied. Jesus Christ not again. My brother in law yelled at me because i went to use the restroom and sat in a different spot then I had the entire game and that’s what caused them to lose the lead.  Don’t mind the fact that Chapman was overused, but hey superstitions are OK too!  So we sat there for the rest of the 8th and 9th innings praying to the baseball gods that Cleveland wouldn’t score another run, and thank god they didn’t.

For the Blackhawks, the number 17 was a lucky number,as in 2 goals in 17 seconds to win the Stanley Cup.  Well, as luck would have it, number 17 showed it’s face again. This time however, 17 minutes not seconds, the time it took for a rain delay. As a Cubs fan, I saw this delay as a way to re-energize the team. The Cubs took the field and with a man on first and second, Zorbrist hit a double.  The Cubs would later score another run, giving them a 2 run lead.  This is it! This is our time! Finally! Of course Cleveland wasn’t going to go out without a fight and managed to score another run.  With 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th, in game 7 of the World Series, millions of Cubs fans held their breath…

I forgot to include this in my original post, but I went to Dicks Sports to buy some WS gear and wouldn’t you know it, my price came out to 108.00.   Thought this was awesome being that it was 108 years since they won.  The people around me were like dude you need to save that receipt. lol

Hawks Win Hawks WIN

We sure do love our Chicago Blackhawks. No, not a bandwagon jumper, been a fan since 92.

Finally met Eddie O and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to ask him for a favor. lol

After not making the playoffs for 5 years, I surprised my dad with Game 1 Round 1 tickets against the Flames. Boy was it loud!

Eat a bowl of dicks, two scoops.

Well this is the end of 2015 and it’s time for my “Eat a bowl of dicks, two scoops” list.

5.  My chicago bears.  Talk about a goddamn wasted season.  The Bears will not win a Superbowl with Cutler, just as the Bulls will not win the NBA title with Rose.

4.  The word “racist”.  Just because I agree with the court system when they find someone guilty or not guilty when that person is of another race, that does not make me a racist.  It makes me someone who has faith in our judicial system.  Also, a black serving on the jury who convicts another black does not make them an Uncle Tom.  It shows that they looked at the evidence and were smart enough to put their personal views to the back.

3. ISIS. You don’t have to blow up shit to scare people, just make threats and schools or business’s will close for the day.  Aslo Stupid ass people who think its funny to call in these bomb threats or shootings as a prank.

2. Black Lives Matter.  See prior blog posting.

1. Me…  Yes, I included myself in this award due to the fact that I screwed up some pretty good things that I had this year. An old supervisor once told me that i have to learn to let shit go over my head and not take shit personally.  A few times this year, I had something good that i let slip away because of my own ignorance.  Well, lesson learned.  Remember this though, if you burn bridges, you can always take a boat.

Totally off subject, this is how bored I am at starbucks.  Here is my star wars Finn subliminal message.  So im sitting here in starbucks thinking about starwars. Anyways, I was just looking at Finn’s name in Starwars, FN2187. 187 is the california code for murder. FN I read as finna as in “im finna write some dumb shit”. 2, is obviously to. So if we slang up finna to just fin, then we have fin to (da) murder. Fin da murder. Even in a galaxy far far away we still stereotyping blacks. lol Mind blown and im drinking too much caffeine.

1/1/2015

2015, one year closer to death.  For the first time in about 13 years, I stayed home.  It was actually nice just sitting there with my wifey, knowing that after the ball dropped, I could go lay in my own bed instead of driving home.  So what’s my new years resolution?  Not a goddamn thing.  Why disappoint myself? I want to lose weight, but I know that doing a resolution isn’t going to shed these pounds.  I want a higher paying job but I know that their are millions of people everyday looking for a job.

Christmas was nice.  I gave my wifey money for after xmas sales, which she took full advantage off.  We went to her parents house along with my sisters and my parents.  My wife bought me a tattoo gift certificate which i’ll be using Jan 7 for this awesome sauce. Clown from slipknot.  10881425_10152924732574326_1621503281_n

On Dec 23rd, I took my dad to the Blackhawks game for his xmas present, surprised him with row 1 seats.  10881876_10152914591809326_6209723402504674191_n As you can see, I wore my Blackhawks Lucha Libre mask.  I get a kick out of people coming up and asking for pics.  It was our first and last time along the glass.  Don’t get me wrong, they are awesome seats, but true fans sit in the 300 section.  Granted, if I win the lottery, you bet your ass i’ll be front row lol.  I got them because I didn’t want to regret not getting them someday.  I mean, my grandpa is 76 years old right now and I wonder if there are things that my dad regrets not being able to do with him now because of his age.  I didn’t want that for me.  So, one day I woke up and told my wifey, I’m getting my dad and I row 1 tickets.  The tickets were crazy expensive but memories are priceless.

I’m sitting here in my usual typing spot, Starbucks.  The girl doing my drink was asking me some questions about my two week vacation, for some reason she remembered. Anyways there was a lady behind me who chimed in about how she is retired and if you are bored, its your own fault.  I was like..bitch, da fuq, nobody was talkin to you. Yes, I said da fuq, which for those unfamiliar with slang is “the fuck”.  Stay in your own lane lady.

Watched the Winter Classic today with my uncle, dad and grandpa.  Hawks lost it via a goal in the last minute.  O’well, can’t win them all.  Plus when you go 1 for 6 on the powerplay, you deserve to lose.  Just shoot the damn puck towards the goal.  Anyone can coach from their couch though.

Do you guys remember the saying “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”?  When the fuck did that get thrown out the window?  There was just another case of a kid who killed himself because he was being called names. My little niece has a mind of her own and i fkn love it, some other kids may think its weird or whatever.  I told her straight up, “if someone calls you a name, tell them to fuck off.  Go ahead, uncle robert will take the blame”.  I told her “don’t be a follower, be a leader”.  It’s true though, kids fell like they have to fit in all the time.  Think about this.  Remember growing up and someone would say “why can’t you be more like (insert name)?”  Look, it’s that shit right there that gives kids the idea that they have to meet a certain guideline on how to act.  Lets look at Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitts daughter, Shiloh.  Kid is 8 years old, wants to be called John and some people are in an uproar over it.  Get the fuck out of here.  If that kid wanted to be called Scooby fucking Doo, who are you to question it?  If people just minded their own goddamn business and stop worrying about what others are doing then maybe we wouldn’t have the problems we have.

Eat a Bowl of Dicks Award goes to … Al Sharpton.  Sharpton has more than $4.5 million in current state and federal tax liens against him and his businesses. How in the hell is he not in jail yet?  Does Obama have him on a leash that damn tight.  Plus this dick is a race baiter who got those two officers killed in New York.  The good Lord needs to do right and put Al and Jesse out to pasture.

I was reading a dumb article about how Back to the Future 2 got some things wrong about 2015.  Well no shit, it was a goddamn movie made in 1989.   Another thing is, how are you going to write about what they got wrong in 2015 when we are only a day into 2015.  Save the damn article for 2016.  I don’t blame the writer, I blame the one thinking it was okay to print it.

This 22 year old guy created a website called Skiplagged.com and is now being sued by a few airline companies.  Even bad publicity is good publicity.  This guy did nothing wrong with his site and made no salary/commission from it.  It’s actually a smart idea.  Lets say you live in new york and want to go to Chicago.  The ticket maybe is $700.  However if you put you want to go to Arizona with a layover in chicago, it will cost $550. This site will tell you that there is a layover.  So, just get off in chicago and don’t connect to Arizona.  I mean, its common sense but these guys are pissed about it.

The Stupid Mother Fkr Award goes to… All the parents that complained about this.  playdoh  You know what you saw, a dong.  Know what your kids saw, a fkn play doh dispenser.  Come on people, why must we over sexualize every goddamn thing? No kid opened up this package and thought, “well damn I just got a dildo for xmas”.

I jumped on the bandwagon and bought a turntable.  I’ve never owned one, but goddamn does vinyl sound good.  I understand the ease of having a cd or mp3, but it just seems that with vinyl, you hear what is meant to be heard. If that makes sense.  I purchased Slipknot, Dire Straits, Santana, Wu Tang, Outkast, and Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.

Alright, I’m done for now.  Remember, don’t let a hot date become a due date.

12/7/2014

So…it’s 0157 in the morning.  Why am I up? No clue.  Friday at work was a day from hell.  I kind of feel bad for the kids because i know that my correctional officer attitude was kicking in.  I have to remind myself that these kids are here for a reason and we are there because regular school doesn’t help.

I have a lot that I want to type, but my mind is going in different directions.  I guess I’ll start with Mike “Hands up dont shoot” Brown vs Eric “I can’t breath” Garner.  When it comes to Mike, I can’t feel bad for the guy.  If you try to attack a cop..you’re gonna have a bad time.  Plan and simple…if  you don’t wanna get shot, do what the officer says.  Of course you want to think that the officer would have used non lethal alternatives, but I wasn’t in that officers shoes. People now think they are forensic experts and law professors, due to them watching a few episodes of Law & Order SVU or CSI Miami.  I watched ER and Grey’s Anatomy, that doesn’t make me a doctor.  Science proves that Mike Brown attacked that officer, that should be it.  Ironically, had Brown just put his damn hands up in the first place, he’d probably still be here.  Now on to Eric Garner.  Have you ever “choked” on a piece of food and started coughing bad to get it up.  Well then, if you’re breathing enough to cough, you ain’t choking.  Same principle applies here.  Eric kept saying ” I can’t breath”.  If I was that officer, I’d think “if you’re talking, you can breath”. I will say that I do feel bad for Eric, the officer should have taken that saying into consideration and perhaps tried a different position.   The problem that I have right now is that 99% of police officers are good people, but goddamn it, for some reason that 1% can’t get out of the damn spotlight.  Another problem I have is President Obama putting his two cents in.  I understand that being black, he probably feels the pressure to say something. However, let’s talk about the black on black crime we have going on too, not just the white/black crap.  Hell, another part of the problem are the fkn idiots that want to try to provoke an officer, just so they can record their reaction.  Unfortunately in today’s world the cell phone camera is as dangerous as a gun.  I don’t know if it was that my father was a sheriff’s deputy, or my two uncles are officers, or that I was law enforcement in the military but if you don’t listen to an officers orders and are a threat or you try to attack an officer, then you deserve to get your ass shot.

GoldsberryI’m a Bulls fan for life, but this ignorant motherfkr here is on my last nerve.  As you can see, Rose is wearing an “I can’t breath” shirt to support Eric Garner.  What Rose should be wearing is a shirt that says ” I can’t play”.  If I was the GM, I’d fine him close to $100,000 for wearing that.  But of course nobody with power within the Bulls is going to say shit because they don’t want to be viewed as racist.

Racist…I hate the fkn word.  It’s not racist if it’s true, that’s called facts.  People throw that damn word around like it’s a frisbee. One of my students called another student racist and I just look at him and said “you know, you’re generation is wearing that word out like an old pair of shoes”.  He didn’t get it…

Let’s change the subject…got this awesome shirt today.1476064_918408798178524_2416612494481100991_n

Well, I have more to write but I’ll do it tomorrow/today depending on how you look at it.
